Tributes are continuing to pour in for former Waterford FC player and manager Johnny Matthews, who sadly passed away on Christmas morning aged 73.

Johnny joined the club during the 1965/66 season from Coventry City under the arrangement of a 6-week loan period.

Johnny went on to make 327 appearances with the club over a 13-year period collecting 6 League of Ireland medals with the Blues.

Former Waterford player Pascal Keane was a great friend of Johnny Matthews; he said Johnny fell in love with Waterford:

"He did and the Waterford public fell in love with Johnny. He'll be sorely missed. Seven League titles, he holds the record there with a couple more players now I think. 140 odd goals, the leading goal scorer for Waterford in all time history. He brought a lot to this city."

You can listen to an interview with Johnny Matthews below.
