Ireland’s Robin Dawson came up short in his bid for a first Amateur Championship title at Royal Aberdeen today as the Tramore man was beaten 3 and 2 by South African Jovan Rebula in the 36 hole final.

Having gone into the second round this afternoon just one down, Dawson failed to get going and found himself 4 holes down after five.

By the time the 21 year old had reached the 9th he was five holes behind. Despite a late rally from Dawson, winning the 13th and 15th, he was unable to keep the momentum going and his challenge ended on the 16th green with the South African taking the title.

Dawson will likely climb into the world’s top twenty after this performance, and is now almost certain to feature on the Ireland team that will compete for the World Amateur Team Championships at Carton House this September.
