After a sadistic day of racing in France, Carrick On Suirs Sam Bennett has made it home within the time limit and will be safe in green for another day.
The fearsome un-categorised Grand Colombier was between the peloton and the finish line today - making for an excruciating end to the stage.
Tadej Pogačar won the stage in a time of 04h 34' 13" with yellow jersey holder Primoz Roglic narrowly beaten on the line.
Bennett crossed the line almost 40 minutes later in a small group of riders including his friend (but rival) Caleb Ewan.
The effort needed today was clear to be seen on the riders faces as the crossed the white line and they will be happy to take a rest day as they have a day off before heading into the home straight for Paris.
The points difference between Bennett and Sagan remains at 45 points with Sam having taken a handful of points earlier in the intermediate sprint.
