Sisters Mairéad and Áine Power from Clonea will go up against their former club mates in Saturday's All Ireland championship clash against Kilkenny at Nowlan Park.

The Powers played with Piltown up until two years ago and helped them to All Ireland intermediate glory in 2015. "We didn't have a club, Clonea only set up an adult team last year," Áine explains. "We joined the Piltown club when we were in secondary school in Carrick. We played with them for a good few years but it was great to go back to Clonea where we grew up."

Áine says that they will see a lot of familiar faces in black and amber. "You have Katie Power, Laura Norris, the two Doyles, Emily McCarthy is there this year and Aoife Norris the goalie. There's loads from Piltown. We're all great friends but once you go on that field you don't know them at all! Looking forward to it."

The sisters returned to Clonea in 2023 and the girls in green won the county junior championship. "The club have put in a great effort at underage; there's really strong teams coming through," Mairéad says. "It was brilliant; great celebrations in Clancys afterwards!"

Mairéad netted her first ever goal for Waterford in the All Ireland semi final win over Tipperary last year. "I just remember laughing after I got it to be honest! A lot of people were surprised I got it and I was myself!"

Déise manager Jerry Wallace is delighted to have both of them on board in 2024. "They'll give you everything on the field. They'll do whatever you ask them to do."

Throw in is at 3 o'clock in Nowlan Park on Saturday.
