Ballygunner joint captain Philip Mahony played through the pain barrier in the All Ireland club final win over Shamrocks after he suffered three broken ribs early on.
Dessie Hutchinson was amazed by how his team mate ploughed on. "He actually broke three ribs in the first ten minutes of the game and he carried on. It's a testament to the man he is. Eoin Cody came down on top of him and he broke three ribs and he played on for the whole game. An absolutely incredible man."
Mahony is a driving force for the team and the club. "To be honest, there's nobody like him. Not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well. The things he does for the young players in the club, the things he does for the juveniles, the things he does for us as a team. He'll be a hard one to replace whenever he hangs them up. We, in Ballygunner, know how important he is on and off the pitch."
