De La Salle joint manager James Quirke felt that Saturday’s rearranged relegation play-off with Ballysaggart should have been played during the afternoon.
The original fixture was abandoned eight days previous due to floodlight failure at Fraher Field. Salle retained their senior status with a 4-23 to 3-11 win.
“What happened last Friday night can happen, it was no one’s fault. No club deserves to play under lights with the magnitude of the result: sending a team to intermediate status. That should be questioned. We didn’t see a county semi final under lights, we didn’t see a county final under lights, we didn’t see any of the junior or intermediate finals treated the same way. The lads deserve to play in daylight at an appropriate time. We did send in a request this week to not have this game under lights. We had lads away and Brian Phelan, the joint manager with myself, was actually away this weekend and he cancelled his holiday plans. We were flatly ignored by the county board and disrespected by the county board. We turned up here tonight, shoulder to the wheel, everyone together and we came out of it. You see the end result tonight.”
