South-East derby to decide promotion to camogie top tier

South-East derby to decide promotion to camogie top tier

Waterford will face Wexford in the Division 1B camogie league final next weekend.

The game will take place in Semple Stadium on Sunday at midday as part of a doubleheader with the Waterford footballers Munster Championship opener with Tipperary (2 pm)

Wexford had one goal to spare in beating Antrim in the final group game of 1B at Portglenone on Sunday.

The yellowbellies finished the group phase second in the table, with a 2-point cushion over the Saffrons in third.

The only loss for Waterford's South-East neighbors was handed to them by Sean Power's side back in February. Waterford had 12 points to spare that day in Gracedieu.

Since that result, Waterford have gone from strength to strength, beating Limerick, Antrim & Down, having already put Offaly to the sword in the opening round of fixtures.

Going into the decider unbeaten will have Waterford as heavy favorites ahead of throw-in, but Wexford will want nothing more than to deny Waterford the chance at promotion for the second consecutive year having beaten them in the semi-final 12 months ago.

The winner goes straight up to 1A for 2024, with the loser remaining in the runners-up tier for another spin around the sun.
