Roanmore and Passage progressed to the last eight of the Waterford SHC at Fraher Field on Saturday night.
In the curtain raiser, Roanmore survived a second half scare to get the better of Ballyduff Upper 2-15 to 2-13. Goals by Emmet O'Toole and Eoin Madigan sent them ten points clear. Ballyduff free taker Eoghan Murray buried a goal in first half injury time to make it 2-8 to 1-6 at the break.
Finan, Eoghan and Conor Murray chipped away at the lead before a Shane Kearney goal left only a point between them. Billy Nolan and Gavin O'Brien stepped up with late points to secure the win for the Sky Blues. O'Brien completed the hour with nine points.
Goals in either half from Thomas and Owen Connors saw Passage pull away from Tallow (2-19 to 0-15). Killian Fitzgerald fired eight points for the Eastern side.
Tallow keeper Shaun O'Sullivan pulled off two fine saves before captain Thomas Connors found the bottom corner on 25 minutes. Passage led 1-8 to 0-9 at half time. Three minutes into the second period, a long range free from Owen Connors bounced into the Tallow net. Both sides finished with fourteen men as Callum O'Neill and Darah Buckley received their marching orders on two yellow cards.
