Twelve points from Maurice Shanahan drove Lismore to their first win of the Waterford SHC as they led from start to finish against near neighbours Ballyduff Upper in Cappoquin (1-21 to 0-15).
The black and amber, with wind assistance, were eleven points clear after fourteen minutes. Maurice Shanahan scored seven points from full forward while he was also involved in a Jordan Shanahan goal after 50 seconds. Ballyduff clawed their way back into the contest with six unanswered points. Two Finbar Reaney efforts helped Lismore into a 1-11 to 0-8 half time lead.
The gap was out to ten by the end of the third quarter as Shanahan, Paudie Prendergast, Oisin O'Gorman and Iarlaith Daly all added points. Eoghan Murray plugged away for the Reds and finished with eleven points. Murray and Mikey Kearney saw close range frees saved by Seanie Barry. Jack Prendergast, Stevie Barry and Jordan Shanahan also got in on the act before the end. Maurice Shanahan completed the hour with a dozen white flags, six from play.
42 year old Dan Shanahan was introduced as a late sub. This is 27th season lining out for the Lismore first team. He won his one and only SHC medal in 1993.
