Shamrock Rovers are expected to appeal their punishment for a fireworks-related incident that saw a temporary stoppage in play during their visit to Waterford FC in November.
The reigning champions defeated the Blues 3-1 at the RSC on the 5th of November last, but the game was remembered for an ugly incident as fireworks detonated above the pitch having been set off by the travelling support.
A man was brought to hospital as a result of injuries on the night, while two Hoops fans were arrested.
The Irish Independent reports that Rovers will play their league opener at home to newly promoted UCD behind closed doors as a result of the incident.
The punishment was admitted by the FAI's Disciplinary Control Unit this afternoon.
Shamrock Rovers are understood to be preparing an appeal ahead of the game in Tallaght on February 18th.
The Dublin club promised to issue lifetime bans to the supporters in question in the aftermath of their arrests.
