The Waterford footballers suffered their second league loss at the hands of Carlow at a rainy Netwatch Cullen Park (2-12 to 2-8).
Goals from Jordan Morrissey and Conor Crowley saw Niall Carew's men pick up their first win of the Division 4 campaign. Déise captain Dylan Guiry netted two second half goals but their spirited comeback came up short.
Carlow led 1-5 to 0-2 at the break as wing back Jordan Morrissey found the net on 19 minutes. Full forward Darragh Foley raised three white flags. Dermot Ryan (free) and Stephen Curry (advanced mark) kicked the Waterford points.
On the restart, Ryan sent over a monster point from 45 metres. Off the Carlow kickout, Conor Crowley fisted to the net after he was supplied by Foley (2-5 to 0-3).
Stephen Curry, David Hallahan and Darragh Corcoran split the posts for the visitors. On 53 minutes, Curry hit the post but Dylan Guiry buried the rebound to the bottom corner (2-7 to 1-6).
Hallahan and Conor Murray knocked over late scores as Ephie Fitzgerald's side fought to the end. Carlow talisman Darragh Foley finished the night with seven points (four from frees).
Waterford sub Jason Curry was sent off on a straight red card four minutes from time. Guiry netted a second from the penalty spot to leave just a goal between them before Carlow sub Adam Murphy clinched the win.
