Touraneena man Seamus Power is in PGA Tour contention yet again this evening after a stunning spell during yesterday's third round propelled him into fourth place heading into the final round of the American Express.

The West Waterford man had a truly electric start to his third round, sharing the lead early on, as he ploughed through the opening holes with ease, as he finished -6 for the day.

Power is in fourth place at 16 under after a third-round 66 at La Quinta, with Frenchman Paul Barjon and American Lee Hodges out in front on 18 under.

The 34-year-old birdied the second hole after striking a par at the start, before going off on a mammoth run that saw him storm to the summit.

Seamus chipped in at the third to climb to -12, and he made it a hat-trick of birdies at 2, 3 and 4 to move into a share of the lead.

It got even better with four birdies on the spin as Power made it -4 through just five holes, and stunningly he then stroked in an eagle at the par 5 6th to go -6 through his opening six holes and move into outright favouritism to take the title.

Two pars followed before a rare bogey saw Seamus drop back to -15 at the 9th, before parring the next three holes and taking the shot back with a great effort on the thirteenth to move back into second and one behind the then-leader.

A two-putt par on the eighteenth hole at La Quinta saw the Touraneena star post a brilliant round of 66 and enter the clubhouse in second place.

Another Sunday in contention awaits the world number 49, and speaking afterward - he was pleased with his round, particularly the front nine.

"It was an interesting round. Really fun on the front there, it was one of those runs where I kind of made everything I looked at for an hour and a half. I had a little bit of a hiccup and three-putted nine from really nowhere at all. I didn't take advantage of eleven or thirteen. I picked one up on 15, that was nice. The wind was picking up, so all things considered - it was nice. I would've taken six under from the start. We're in a good position going into tomorrow."

Seamus Power will tee off at 6.45 Irish time this evening in the company of Harry Higgs and Hudson Swafford. A win would propel him right toward the top of the current FedEx Cup standings as well as handing him $1.37m in the process.
