Waterford attacker Róisín Tobin has come back stronger from a cruciate knee ligament injury that saw her miss the 2018 season.
"It was tough. You were going back to the beginning really. Will I ever be back to the player I was? Will I ever play with the girls again? It was a long process. Kenny Murphy brought me on and took me under his wing. He was an agony aunt on the side! His expertise and guidance was very much valued and brought me all the way to where I am today. I learned a lot in terms of strength and conditioning, diet, nutrition and recovery. I had to turn my mind to it and say 'this is a window of opportunity to learn more and evolve more as a player.' Over time, I have in terms of understanding the importance of the gym to support the pitch sessions. I had to take it on the chin and get on with it and go with it. You have to keep going because we love it and we're mad for it. I was blessed to earn my place back on the team again."
When Tobin returned in the spring of 2019, Waterford won a Division 2 title and she was named on the team of the league. "I played the last round of the league against Clare and I was like a new born calf running around the field! 'Here I go!' I didn't have any aspirations to be honest just to play football. To make the final team against Kerry was a dream come true; the hard work had paid off. A bonus was the team of the league. I didn't expect that at all."
Waterford face Tyrone in a winner takes all clash on Saturday afternoon in Mullingar. A place in the All Ireland quarter finals is at stake.
