Waterford football boss Benji Whelan has been impressed by Rathgormack's SFC title defence so far.

The green and red have defeated St Saviours, Kilrossanty and Clashmore by double figures.

"Their work rate is incredible," Whelan told WLR's weekly GAA show Lár Na Páirce. "We always go on as managers about selfless running and pulling guys out of position,  they have it in spades. There's guys moving all over the field and there's no problem whatsoever if they're not getting the ball because they know they are creating the space inside for somebody to get the ball. There's no heroes or anything like that on the team. Everybody shares the responsibility and you have take the plaudits when they come your way and then the next day, it's your job that somebody else gets them. That's a model, for me, that has a future. They seem to have the desire to dominate Waterford football and they have the capacity to do that if they keep their heads on their shoulders and I don't doubt that they will."

In Sunday's county semi final, he thinks that the holders will shut down Gaultier's star forward Dessie Hutchinson who has scored 2-16 so far. "Dessie is a top operator and we'd love to have him, he knows that. Dessie has to operate in some form of space and I don't see space to breathe on that pitch. Anytime he gets the ball, he's going to have somebody breathing down his neck. If Dessie doesn't score, it takes a huge amount out of the Gaultier challenge."
