Another week, another good start to a PGA Tour event for Seamus Power.
The West Waterford man opened his ledger at the Rocket Mortgage Classic with an impressive 6 under for a score of 66.
This weekend's action is taking place at the Detroit Golf Club, and while the Irish representation in Mount Juliet has so far flattered to deceive, the Tooraneena native has placed himself just three shots off the lead.
Starting on the back nine on Thursday, it was a dream start - two birdies back-to-back followed by six straight pars. Another birdie followed on the 17 and a level score on the 18th.
Making the turn, he bookended his five straight pars with birdies on the 1st, 7th, and 8th - by any man's scoring, a stirring round of golf.
Speaking after his round he said "It's been a funny season. I've actually been playing pretty well for a while, but I had to get surgery at the end of the Fall and couldnt really practice the way I wanted to. Even early in January or February, I couldn't really hit balls."
Hitting his fairways has never been something Seamus found much bother with, but his putting has taken a noted improvement in recent outings, he credits a change of grip with the newfound results.
"For the first time in my life I went with a claw grip, starting in February. It just felt comfortable and some of it is to just freshen it up, since I wasn't playing great. Thats been a nice little change of pace too, so lets see if I can keep it up"
With the lead in Motown held by Davis Thompson on 9 under, Seamus will be eyeing this weekend as another great chance to crack a top ten on a PGA leaderboard.
He tee's off today (Friday) at ten past five Irish Time, and the event will be live on Sky Sports Golf.
