Power out of Farmers

Power out of Farmers

The weekend ended far too early for Seamus Power in California having missed the cut at the Farmers Insurance Open.

The Touraneena man was three shots off the cut mark after his Friday outing which saw him shoot 70 for -2.

The Farmers began on Wednesday, which in itself is unusual. Historically golf tournaments start on Thursday, allowing them to finish on Sunday evening.

However, the power of the NFL in America knows no bounds and with the conference championship finals taking centre stage on Sunday, the PGA Tour has had to eat a slice of humble pie, starting a day early so as not to go up against the big dogs.

Power played the more challenging South Course on Wednesday, carding a 74 for two over. He was blemish-free on the front nine, making the turn on level par. He handed back shots on the 11th, 12th and 15th to go three over, before pulling one back on the last.

On Thursday, playing the easier South Course at Torrey Pines, Power's scoring looked healthier, albeit unsettled. He made the turn on one under and would go on to pick up two more shots on the 10th and 11th.

Three bogeys on the 12th, 15th and 18th scuppered his hopes of playing the whole weekend as he bowed out three shots short of making the cut.

The start to 2024 has not been what the 2021 Barbasol winner would have been hoping for following his return from a prolonged hip injury.

He shared 50th at the end of play on his return at the Sentry Tournament, following that up with a T74 finish at the Sony Open in Hawaii. This close miss in California marks his first missed cut of the season.

We are likely to see him tee it up once again at the Pebble Beach Pro-Am next week.
