Waterfords Seamus Power has a chance at claiming some substantial prize money and some badly needed Fed Ex points this weekend at the At & T Byron Nelson in Texas.
Power is just six shots off the pace being set by American Sam Burns at the halfway point.
This is the second consecutive weekend on the PGA Tour for Seamus who finished up 1 under at the Wells Fargo Championship last weekend in his home state of North Carolina.
Golf Writer with the Irish Golf Desk and Irish Independent Brian Keogh says that Seamus is starting to show some of his skills this year, having come through a delayed elbow surgery before Christmas.
"I mean I was only speaking to him after his great qualifying round for the Wells Fargo, when he shot 62, in a Monday qualifier. He was telling me about how difficult it would be to recover from the elbow surgery at the end of last year".
"That's really taken an awful lot longer than he imagined to heal".
"It's only now really, that he's beginning to feel 100% himself and he started to show what he can do".
The striking stat from Seamus' opening two rounds in the Lone Star State is that he's only made one bogey - that came yesterday on the fourth hole.
Ten birdies (five each day) and an eagle on the final hole of his first day have propelled him into very talented company. He tee's off this evening alongside former masters Champions Charl Schawrtzel, while nine time PGA Tour event winner Matt Kuchar is level score with Seamus.
"He's a great putter and he's got a great short game and its a low scoring week on this course" said Keogh.
"It's set up for people who hit the ball a long way as we can see from Sam Burns who’s having an absolutely fantastic season I think that's the fifth 36 hole lead he's had this year."
"There’s guys who like to make birdies - Alex Noren up there in second place two shots off the lead and a really lovely leader board and a nice third round draw for Seamus as well, going out with the former masters champion Charl Schwartzel."
Burns leads on 17 under and the Lousianna native is yet to drop a shot as he begins his second 36, which coud potentially be his second win on the PGA Tour come Sunday.
Keogh says that when you look at the stats so far, Seamus has been mixxing it with the best of them.
"He's up there in heady company now and you know he's playing well."
"He's ranked right up there for strokes gained around the green - that just shows you his short game, he's top 20 for putting as well and he says he's driving the ball well so when Seamus power is driving the ball well you got to watch out"
