Waterford FC will be in the market for a new striker in the coming weeks as it has been confirmed that Pheonix Patterson is set to leave.

The young Scot is making the move across the channel where he will play for Fleetwood Town - Waterford owner Andy Pilley's other club.

The 22-year-old was the top scorer for the Blues in 2022 - scoring 28 goals as well as producing 12 assists.

Patterson was named League of Ireland Player of the Season, as well as featuring in the Team of the Season.

The club have said that they "felt this was the right time to allow Phoenix to progress his career with a new challenge and are delighted he will join our sister club over in England."

Speaking to WaterfordFC.ie, Patterson expressed his love for the club and it's fans - “The fans mean a lot to me; I will always be a Waterford fan and I’ll try and get back over in the summer when we have a break to come and see everyone because the club has been a big part of my career as it helped me become the player I am today – thank you.”

Club owner Pilley has been speaking to the club also, stating that as a consequence of the failed tilt at promotion the move is to allow Patterson to play to his full potential in England.

“I’m just delighted we’ve been able to keep him in the group; We also want to have this pathway that if players are excelling in the Irish league, we want to bring them across to the English Football League and, who knows, if they do well in League One, they may find themselves in the Championship or the Premier League – that is the model and I want to shout that from the rooftops” said Pilley.
