Patrick Curran wins April WLR / Granville Hotel Monthly GAA Award

Dungarvan man Patrick Curran is the April winner of the WLR FM / Granville Hotel Monthly GAA Award.

The 26-year-old built upon a string of strong individual showings in the Allianz National Hurling League, by pitching in with 1-3 from play in the decider versus Cork on April 2nd, as the Déise won their first piece of silverware since 2015.

Patrick carried his fine form into the Munster Senior Hurling Championship two weeks later, starring as Liam Cahill’s side secured an opening round victory against Tipperary at Walsh Park.

The minor and U-21 All-Ireland winner contributed 0-4 and laid on a number of scores as he was named Man of the Match on the day, in another coming-of-age performance where he began to replicate his outstanding form shown at underage level down the years.

A delighted Patrick was grateful to be acknowledged for the award, and was joined by his parents Pat and Margaret at a reception in the Granville Hotel.

The schoolteacher is now focusing on the club championships with his beloved Dungarvan after the Déise were eliminated from the championship following on from losses to Limerick, Cork and Clare.

Patrick Curran contributed 2-21 in Waterford’s run to league honours, while he chipped in with 1-13 in the Munster Championship.
