At a meeting of the Munster council, Waterford representative, Brendan Tobin proposed to amend the regulation, that if a county is unable to host home games, it would be possible to nominate venues outside the province.
However he says the proposal was defeated. He proposed that the line that neutral venues located in the province be deleted and he put forward an argument for Waterford's case.
He did get a seconder and in a vote it was beaten by five votes to four with one abstention.
Brendan Tobin says it now looks likely that next years Championship games against Clare and Limerick will go ahead Walsh Park..
He says the ideal scenario would be that the Waterford home games go ahead in Walsh Park this year and that planning would be approved and immediately after the Limerick game
the development could commence and would be completed for 2020.
Brendan Tobin says he has a commitment from the Munster Council Chairman that he will meet with the Waterford County GAA Board very soon.
He says they are committed to playing the Championship games in Walsh Park if the development has not commenced.
If it is started, he says there will be discussions on where the games will be played.
