The Waterford senior football and hurling championships will be run on a four groups of three format, with no relegation, following tonight’s online county board meeting. All twelve teams in both codes will stay in the top flight for 2021 and they will be joined by the 2020 intermediate winners.
The top two in each group will qualify for the quarter finals. The SHC runs from August 1 to August 30. The SFC starts on September 5 with the final fixed for October 4.
Ballygunner will begin their bid for seven in a row against Tallow. They are unbeaten in 33 Waterford SHC games. 2019 intermediate champions Ballysaggart will face De La Salle in their first senior game.
Conway Cup holders Rathgormack, who won their first title since 1999 last October, will start their defence against last year's intermediate winners St Saviours.
Tonight’s online county board meeting was held in camera. No local media were permitted to attend.
