Cappoquin native Jayson Molumby has joined West Bromwich Albion on loan for the 2021/22 season.

The Ireland international midfielder has left Brighton & Hove Albion on loan for the third time, following previous Championship spells with both Millwall and Preston North End.

An option to make the move a permanent switch has been included in the deal.

Molumby, who has been included in Stephen Kenny’s 25-man Ireland squad for World Cup qualifiers against Portugal & Azerbaijan - has 9 Ireland caps to his name to date.

He has made in excess of 50 EFL Championship appearances already and will look to cement a place in the starting 11 of a team pushing for Premier League promotion following relegation from the top flight last season.

Molumby joins fellow Ireland internationals Dara O’Shea and Callum Robinson at the Hawthorns.

The 22-year-old wrote on social media that he was excited to join the club, and is looking forward to the challenge:

West Brom boss Valérien Ismaël is “delighted” to have recruited Molumby, who he says has the “perfect profile” to play for his side.

“Jayson is the perfect example of a player who has the right mentality and suits our philosophy. He is the right player for us and we are delighted to have him. His skills out of possession are incredible and he gives us more volume and more possibilities in midfield, which will support us with our intensity and this is one of his strengths. Jayson is young but he already has a lot of experience in the Championship and with Ireland. He has the perfect profile – our new profile – to be a West Brom player and I’m delighted to have him.”
