1-11 from Patrick Fitzgerald (1-6 from play) fired Ballygunner to their fourth Waterford minor hurling title in a row at a deserted Fraher Field tonight.

It was a county final like no other. The gates were locked and the stands were empty after the Government's decision to stage sporting events behind closed doors. 40 passes were issued to each team.

A seventh minute goal from Fitzgerald left the Gunners 1-7 to 0-6 to the good at half time.

Abbeyside closed the gap to one on three occasions in the second half.  William Beresford and Charlie Treen scored five points each for the Villagers.

Fitzgerald was on fire however and a stunning injury time score sealed a 1-13 to 0-14 victory.

"Patrick Fitzgerald is one of a great group of lads that we have," said Gunners boss Colin Kehoe. "We are very lucky to have him, he's an exceptional talent."

He was disappointed that parents weren't allowed to attend. "It was a tough night for the kids. I can't see the reason for it. Young lads like this, they need their parents here. They play for their parents day in, day out. They've driven them around for years and years. It's a pity that they weren't here."
