Dan Shanahan believes that Limerick full back Mike Casey is the frontrunner for hurler of the year heading into this weekend's semi finals at Croke Park.
The Na Piarsaigh defender returned from injury to man the square for the Shannonsiders this summer and has confronted All Star forwards Patrick Horgan, John Conlon and Seamus Callanan so far. Horgan has strong claims for the award but the Lismore legend gives Casey the nod. "I think he has been outstanding since he's come back in. I think he missed one game through injury and Sean Finn went full back. He's been a rock there for Limerick."
Shanahan has been impressed by how John Kiely has used his squad this season. "He used his panel well in the league I thought. He made a lot of changes in league games and the panel has really stepped up to the mark. He's bringing on fellas as good as the fellas that are being taken off. The subs know their roles as good as the players know them. I have to compliment John Kiely on that. They're a serious force."
