A member of the Limerick senior hurling team was reportedly arrested after an incident in a pub in the early hours of Monday morning, where a Tipperary hurler was headbutted.
The Irish Independent report that the altercation took place at a well-known Limerick pub at 12:30am - hours after the sides had faced off in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship, with Limerick coming from behind at the break to secure a seven-point success.
Tempers are believed to have flared between two members of the opposing panels in the bar later that evening, with Gardai called to the scene following reports of an assault.
The Limerick player in question was subsequently arrested and brought to Henry Street Garda Station. However, he was released without charge after questioning.
A file is currently being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions in relation to the incident. It's not known at this time whether or not the Tipperary player required treatment for any injuries sustained during the altercation.
A formal statement of complaint has been made to the Gardai in relation to the Limerick hurler.
Limerick GAA have released a statement in response, citing that a player was involved in 'a breach of team protocols'.
"On Sunday night last, a member of the Limerick Senior Hurling squad was involved in a breach of our team protocols. The matter has been dealt with by management internally and no further comment will be made on the matter at this time.”
Limerick face Clare in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship this Sunday at 4pm, while Tipperary are not in action this weekend.
