Leinster and Ulster squared off in a highly anticipated clash at the Aviva Stadium tonight.
First-time Leinster captain Ed Byrne scored the first try early on to mark the occasion and it was converted by Ross Byrne. Two Byrne penalties had Leinster 13-0 after just 20 minutes.
That was the half-time score after a frustrating opening period for Ulster.
They were much improved after the break and the next try came from Rob Herring, converted by John Cooney.
A Cooney penalty then made it 16-10 with 12 minutes left on the clock.
A killer blow arrived with just six minutes left as Leinster scored in the corner through Scott Penny, following a fine cross-field kick from Harry Byrne.
Ulster thought they had responded through a quickfire try from Cooney, but it was ruled for offside.
Another try from Byrne in the last minute sealed the win for Leinster on a 28-10 scoreline.
