Landmark win for Waterford camogie on Leeside

Landmark win for Waterford camogie on Leeside

Beth Carton shot ten points in the Páirc Uí Chaoimh sunshine as Waterford enjoyed their first senior win over Cork since they earned promotion in 2015.

Eight second half points from the three-time All Star inspired Sean Power's side to a 1-18 to 1-15 victory on the banks of the Lee. De La Salle team mate Abby Flynn struck four from play (two in each half) while Niamh Rockett netted in the first half. Brianna O'Regan and Vikki Falconer starred in defence for the Déise.

The sides were level five times in the first half. Two points apiece from Abby Flynn and Orla Hickey left Waterford 6-3 up after fourteen minutes. Cork captain Amy O'Connor found the bottom corner of the net on the quarter hour mark. Three minutes later, Hickey picked out Rockett in front of goal. The 2020 All Star fumbled the sliotar initially but flicked it home between her legs. At the other end, Brianna O'Regan saved bravely from O'Connor. Chloe Sigerson shot three long range points for Cork as the teams went in tied at 1-8 each.

Carton hit eight second half singles (five frees and three from play) and Flynn added two as Waterford ended a run of twelve defeats to the Rebels. Cork subs Emma Murphy and Ali Smith impressed with two points apiece but the visitors held on for a famous result.
