Another new arrival at the RSC this bank holiday Sunday.

The Kilkenny native returns to the RSC having spent time with the U19's in 2013 before linking up with the UCD academy at 18 years old.

An adept central defender, the Blues boss Ian Morris is excited to have the 27-year-old as part of his squad for the coming First Division season. He told WaterfordFC.ie that "Kilian is a great addition at the back for us. He has a big presence, is a really good passer, fantastic aerially, and knows the league. He will be a leader in the group this year."

Cantwell is no stranger to the League of Ireland First Division, having spent time with Wexford Youths, Galway United, Limerick FC and Bray Wanderers. He has also plied his trade with Finn Harps and was most recently rostered at Athlone Town.

He told the club website that he's excited to make his return to Waterford after so many years elsewhere.

"Now that I am returning to the club I can’t wait to play in front of the Waterford fans and hopefully do them proud. The RSC always has a great atmosphere and I’m sure 2022 will be no different.

“The club has a great fan base with passion for the game. The calibre of players that are at the club along with the facilities means it has everything you would want from a full-time setup. Ian has won the First Division and knows exactly what it takes to come out on top, with that experience it was a no-brainer for me to take this opportunity."

Cantwell's signing comes just hours after Yassine En-Neyah was confirmed by the club as their latest addition to the midfield ranks, while yesterday eight players were marked down to stay with the Blues for the coming year.
