It's reported that Cuala boss Mattie Kenny is the new front-runner to become Waterford senior hurling manager.

Kenny, who has led the Dublin club to back-to-back All-Ireland hurling titles, is reportedly the top-target for the Deise, to replace Derek McGrath, who stepped down following this year's Munster Championship elimination.

Cork native Pat Ryan had previously looked like being the favorite, before ruling himself out of contention.

Waterford's prospects were severely hit by injuries this year, as they lost their Division 1(A) status and endured a tough Munster championship, picking up just a point from their four games, following a draw against Tipperary at the Gaelic Grounds.
