All Star hurler Jamie Barron is the July winner of the WLR/Granville Hotel GAA Award.

The Fourmilewater midfielder was man of the match in the All-Ireland qualifier win over Galway as he hit four points from play. He followed that up with another four points against Tipperary in the All-Ireland quarter final.

The 27-year-old has three All Star awards to his name (2016, 2017 and 2020).

Jamie Barron was crowned the overall winner at the Granville Hotel in 2017. That was after his goals against Cork and Kilkenny guided the Déise to the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship final.

This is Barron's fifth monthly award.

Championship reflection

Speaking to WLR, Barron was happy with the recognition.

"It's always nice to win these awards, they're a great part of GAA in Waterford and it's always nice to win one."

The three-time All-Star starred in the games against Galway and Tipperary. He says those games were where the team really implemented what Liam Cahill and Michael Bevans want them to bring to the table.

"In the first two games, we didn't show what we were capable of. We went into the Galway match and said we'd go all out and thankfully we got over the line, and it was the same thing again against Tipperary. Those two performances where were we really put into practice what Liam and Michael want us to do. We really brought their ideas into the game and showed what we're capable of."

Barron also reserved praise for his midfield partner, Peter Hogan. The pair pitched in with 0-14 from the middle in those two games and Jamie says the Ballygunner man is a joy to play with.

"Peter is a clever player, he's very vocal on the pitch and always communicates well during games. He's comfortable in possession and when he's on the ball, he always makes good decisions. He focuses a lot on his hooks and blocks, and it's good to have someone like that beside you."
