Waterford legend Dan Shanahan was one of Conor Prunty's heroes growing up.
"Dan would have been one of them funnily enough even though I've ended up at the opposite end of the field! The likes of Ken McGrath as well. When Richie Foley was hurling well with Waterford and taking frees, I would have been out practicing frees!"
Shanahan and Prunty ended up marking each other at club level. "The man has shown over the last few years that age doesn't matter!"
Prunty says that injured skipper Pauric Mahony has been a big help behind the scenes ahead of Sunday's All Ireland final against Limerick. The Abbeyside defender was handed the captaincy after Mahony suffered a season ending knee injury in October. "Pauric has been excellent, you can talk to him whenever you want. He's really encouraging and he backs us to the hilt. Anytime you need advice, he's there. He's still there leading the group. I would still call him our captain, he's my captain."
Prunty was overwhelmed by the amount of well wishes after the win over Kilkenny. "I don't know are people just bored at the moment! There's a lot more outreach. WhatsApp was pinging for a while! You can't get too hung up on all the good wishes, you have to focus on your own job."
