Ballygunner will begin their bid for eight county titles in a row against Ballyduff Upper on Saturday afternoon.
They are unbeaten in 38 championship games dating back to June 23, 2015.
Former Waterford minor and under 21 coach Kieran O'Gorman says that the Gunners are formidable at all grades. "If you watch them playing from under 14 to senior, they have a template. Every single Ballygunner team plays the same way. Nobody is able to grasp it at the moment. Look, it's the start of a new championship this weekend. Everyone has their goals and they set out to achieve them. Some clubs are hoping to win it and some clubs are hoping to avoid relegation. It's hard to see beyond Ballygunner."
GAA writer with the Dungarvan Leader Mac Dara Mac Donncha agrees that the Gunners are the undisputed number one. "They are probably further ahead of the pack than Limerick are. They're on seven. If they get nine, they equal the record. If they get ten, they create the record. Unfortunately, it's almost a little bit boring the Waterford hurling championship in the last couple of years because we haven't seen anyone remotely coming near Ballygunner."
Mac Dara and Kieran made their championship predictions on Friday's Lár Na Páirce.
