Cyril Farrell feels that Davy Fitzgerald will drive Waterford forward over the next two years.

"I think it's a good appointment. Waterford will be disappointed this year with the way they played in the championship but they still have a very good team. They'll be hurting. Whoever who was going to get them would get a great return out of them. Davy Fitz has a good track record, he has won leagues, he has won All Irelands. He's always left a team better than he got them. Knowing him, he'll be looking forward to it and he'll dive into the action straight away."

The former All Ireland winning manager with Galway thinks that Davy will target the championship in 2023. "He'll box clever with the league. They mightn't go after the league this time. He'll go flat out for the championship. He'll have them very fresh for the championship, he won't have them overcooked."

Farrell believes that the Clare man will trawl the county for players. "He'll cover all the club games. You'll find that he'll cover the venues, whether it's senior, intermediate or junior. He could pluck a lad out of anywhere. That's what he'd love to do if they're good enough. He'll look forward to this. It's going to be an exciting time for Waterford."
