"It's a huge honour" Jason Curry on captaining Waterford

Rathgormack forward Jason Curry is proud to captain the Waterford footballers in 2024.

"It's a huge honour. I was delighted when Paul Shankey asked me to be captain."

Jason has been part of the inter county set-up for the last ten seasons alongside his brother Michael. They are always willing to answer the call. "Michael is a year ahead of me, he is on his eleventh season. You play for your county while you can. You don't get to play for too many years, maybe ten or twelve is the most that lads get out of their inter county careers. While we're young and able to play, we'll play."

The highlight of his inter county career so far was the 2018 All Ireland qualifier win against Wexford. "We've had a couple of good days, probably the year we beat Wexford in the qualifiers. We got to take on Monaghan in Fraher Field and you saw the huge crowd that came that day. Waterford football needs a bit more support like that in the league and other days. A bit of support, that's all we're asking for."

He would like to see bigger numbers get behind the team. The Déise welcome Longford to the SETU Arena at 4 o'clock today in Division 4 of the National League. "The last day, Leitrim probably outnumbered the Waterford support. It's disappointing for the players, going out and not getting too much support. It would be great to get a big crowd for the match against Longford on Saturday."
