The biggest ten mile run in the country takes place in Dungarvan today.

The John Treacy run is now in its 31st year and thousands of runners will descend on the west Waterford town for the hugely popular event.

They get underway on the Youghal road at 11am.

James Veale is PRO of West Waterford Athletics Club.

Speaking to WLR Sport ahead of the event, he says the John Treacy is always a fantastic event:

"It's 31 years on the go now so I suppose we're in one way used to the big occasion!

"Over the years it has got bigger and bigger and this year it has grown again, so we have 3,750 entries in, which is massive.

"It's a huge event and it will bring somewhere in the region of 5,000 or more people into the town."

Drivers are being advised that there will be some traffic delays in the area this morning. However, James says it won't be for too long:

"The start line can be a bit congested and there will be traffic delays there for maybe half an hour or so.

"We would just ask people to bear with us.

"Once they're gone off the Youghal Road, it's all freed up - but just from maybe 10.30am onwards, it gets a bit congested around the start line."
