Tipperary midfielder Noel McGrath is Derek McGrath's pick for hurler of the year even though the Loughmore-Castleiney isn't on the shortlist for the prestigious award.
The Premier playmaker was named man of the match in both the All Ireland semi final and final. The former Waterford boss was surprised that he didn't make the cut.
“Amazingly, he was left out of the nominations for hurler of the year. He’s been brilliant. The only slight dip was the Munster final against Limerick but that was a malaise all over the pitch for Tipperary that day. Other than that, he’s been consistency personified for the whole year. I think he’s the heartbeat. Like, if you’re playing Tipperary in the morning, you need to stop Noel McGrath. The distribution to Callanan and Bubbles comes from Noel in terms of the type of ball that’s being given in.”
Seamus Callanan, TJ Reid and Patrick Horgan are in contention for the top prize tonight.
