Michael Kiely's family were out in force at the SETU Arena to watch his man of the match performance for UL in Saturday's Fitzgibbon Cup final.

The Abbeyside man shot 4-1 from play as the Limerick students secured back to back titles.

"All my family, cousins, friends, everybody is here," he told WLR Sport afterwards. "No matter where the match is on, my family would be there. If it was on in Donegal, they'd be there so I was sure they'd make the thirty minute trip down the road to see this one!"

It was a dream day for the full forward. He completed a first half hat trick and volleyed home his fourth goal three minutes into the second period. "The boys did a lot of the hard work in the backs. We got to grips with it early. We worked the ball out like we wanted to do and we got our game plan right. I was hanging in around the goal and the breaks came to me today. I had the easy job, the boys were working hard at the back."

UL scored 2-6 without reply during an eight minute purple patch in the first half. "We wanted to get a good start. Last year, we were six points down at half time. We wanted to get a good start today and thankfully we got that."

Mark Fitzgerald from Passage and Clonea's James Power also played their part on a star studded team. "The Fitzgibbon is a big medal as everybody knows. We said at the start of the year that last year was finished and we wanted to get a second one."
