Darragh O'Sullivan and James O'Connor will put their long-standing friendship to one side in Saturday's All Ireland club final.

“I played with Joxer on Waterford teams from under 13 right up to under 21,” O’Sullivan told WLR's Lár Na Páirce show. “Joxer had his own business with Dave Bennett for 10 or 12 years and I was his accountant! He’d come in regularly, deliver the stationery into the office and we’d have great craic. I got four AAA batteries in the post so I don’t think Joxer will be delivering over the next couple of weeks! I don’t why the batteries came in the post! Joxer is a great guy, a really great guy. I enjoy his company any time I’m in it. It’s gas that we’ll come up against each other. We would have marked each other several times. He was full back for Lismore and I was full forward for Ballygunner. We’ve a great relationship. I’d be delighted for Joxer if we don’t win. Obviously, I don’t want him to win! Any other day, I would be in his camp.”

Ballygunner and Lismore met regularly in knockout games during the nineties and noughties. “He was a tough opponent. Joxer is a straight, hard, genuine guy and he was that way on the field as well. He wasn’t in any way dirty, in fairness to him. He would have a hold of me and I would have a hold of him! Listen, we always got on really well. I don’t remember a time when any of us went over the line.”
