All Ireland winning manager with Galway Cyril Farrell believes that Waterford can add the Liam MacCarthy Cup to the league trophy they won earlier this month.

A six point victory over Cork at Semple Stadium saw the Déise claim their first major title in seven years.

“I think it will give them a great boost," Farrell told WLR's On The Ball show. "Looking back at our own time, I remember we won the league in 1987. After losing every final in 1986, we won the league in 1987. While it was just the league, it gave us great impetus and we went on from there. I can see Waterford doing the very same thing. I think this is going to be Waterford’s year. I like what Liam Cahill is doing. He has put a great group of players together and they are all singing off the same hymn sheet.”

Farrell feels that they have the squad to go all the way this summer. “The big thing I’ve been impressed with is their panel. The last day, Stephen Bennett scored goals and points for fun and he wasn’t even playing in the semi final. It shows you that the depth is there. They were without Aussie the last day and you wouldn’t know it."
