The Waterford minor ladies football team are still on a high after lifting the All Ireland C title against Armagh last weekend.
Pat O’Brien’s side came out on top by a single point after an eleven goal thriller in Kinnegad (6-8 to 5-10).
Goalkeeper Katelyn Gardner was relieved to hear the final whistle. “I fell to the floor! I just needed a break after the last 20 minutes of the match! I looked up and Ava Connolly came running down from corner forward!”
Katelyn's mother Siobhan was part of the backroom team. "Mam was on the sideline. I went over to her and I gave her a hug!"
An Sean Phobal hosted a homecoming event for the team. “It was unreal," said captain Lia Ní Arta. "They really went out of their way; I can’t thank them enough for it. It was absolutely outstanding. We had a guard of honour. It was really special for me to come back to my home club. A lovely ending to my minor career!”
Lia Ní Arta and Katelyn Gardner spoke to WLR Sport this week.
