Lorraine Bray is proud to lead out the Waterford camogie team in 2022. The 2019 All Star was appointed captain for the first time earlier this year.
"It is a great honour. We are all leaders on the field when we go out there, it's no individual. Delighted to be the captain of all those girls. They're a great bunch and we've great craic along the way as well."
This is her tenth season on the panel. The Cappoquin midfielder joined the Déise squad in 2013 under Mark Cooney. "I don't think there's a bond like it when you get a team together. They're friends for life. I always look forward to going training because I know I'm meeting up with the girls."
Waterford will welcome Dublin to Walsh Park in Round 1 of the All Ireland camogie championship on Saturday at 5 o'clock. The Déise have reached the quarter finals in the last four seasons. Bray expects a tough encounter with the Dubs. "We'll be expecting nothing short of a battle. We know what Dublin bring. They are a very physical team. It is anyone's game. We are just hoping to come with more work rate. Whoever works harder on the day will be coming out of Walsh Park with the win."
Her move from half back to midfield has paid off. Waterford’s pocket rocket found the net against Tipperary and Cork and shot five points from play against Kilkenny. "I'm really enjoying it. You have more freedom when you're that far out the field."
Away from the camogie field, Bray works at a creche in Ballyporeen. "I'm with junior pre-schoolers, three or four year olds so my hands are full daily! I love the job."
