It's hoped soccer fans can return to the RSC in time for Waterford FC's next home game.

Under the government's new Living with Covid-19 roadmap up to 200 spectators can attend stadia with a minimum capacity of 5,000.

The RSC has a capacity of 5,500, with 3,000 seats.

Waterford FC play Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght Stadium next Monday, with the next home game then due to be played against Sligo Rovers on Friday September 25th.

The club is waiting on clarification from the FAI, but event controller Mark Dunne says they are hopeful fans will be allowed back in.

"We're pushing hard to have this done, we want to be able to look after our season ticket holders this season and get them back in and back supporting the Blues. There's fantastic support for the club in the city, we're doing really really well, it's exciting times."

Mark has been involved in the club for 16 years, he says it's strange being there without fans: "when the RSC is full it's electric in there, and the players really feed off the fans".

He admitted it will create some difficulty deciding how to allocate the reduced number of tickets, but they are working on a plan which he hopes will satisfy all season ticket holders.
