Colligan attacker Colin Dunford says that Dan Shanahan has made a big impact as coach over the last couple of months. The black and amber are preparing for Sunday's Munster junior hurling semi final against Ballygiblin in Páirc Uí Rinn.

"He's unbelievable to have around. He has got a great response from us as a group. We're delighted to have a fella of his stature in coaching us. He has brought a new lease of life to us. Hopefully, we'll have another couple of weeks of Dan after the weekend."

The former Hurler of the Year will be linking up with Laois in 2023. "His trainings are unbelievably enjoyable. It's all very sharp hurling. You'd be so confident after doing one of his trainings with your hurling, with your catch, with your touch, with your strike, with everything. There's no criticism of any player, it's all encouragement from Dan."

Colligan won their first county junior title in 38 years against Ballygunner back in September. "It was a sense of relief because we lost so many Western finals and Western semi finals and a county final two years before that. The scenes were unreal out on the field with all the people from around the parish with the Colligan colours on when we lifted that cup. It was unbelievable to look out at. It was just a huge sense of relief that we finally got over the line."
