Ballygunner attacker Dessie Hutchinson is excited by the arrival of Davy Fitzgerald as Waterford hurling manager.

"The majority of Waterford people are really happy to have him back. It's an exciting time to be a player and a supporter of Waterford. I don't know Davy too well, but I know from looking in at him with other teams that he will give absolutely everything. He will give every player the opportunity to go and express themselves as best they can. As a player, that's all you want."

He spoke briefly to the new bainsteoir. "I've had a couple of conversations with him but that's about it. In fairness, he's leaving us be with Ballygunner and he's wished us the best of luck. Anybody I've been talking to, that's around the group, are really excited at the plans he has for us."

Hutchinson believes that Waterford can go all the way under the Clare man. "There's a group of players there at the moment that are definitely capable of winning an All Ireland. Hopefully, Davy can instil that belief in us that we can go and do it. People were talking about us winning an All Ireland last year. I know the way the year ended but you don't turn into a bad team overnight. I definitely believe that we can go and achieve whatever we want with Waterford. Please God, Davy is the right man to lead us to that."
