New Year's weekend has been nicely packaged up for Waterford FC who have this evening confirmed that both Shane Griffin and Paul Martin will remain with the club into the new season.

The pair of academy graduates are the latest in a list of ten players who have been confirmed as part of Ian Morris' squad for the first division campaign which begins mid-February with the trip to Athlone Town.

Paul Martin had a spell as first-choice goalkeeper early in 2021 when Kevin Sheedy still manned the ship at the RSC, while center-mid Griffin chipped in with three goals last season; making 29 appearances in all.

Paul's brother John recently departed the club for Dundalk. The Kilkenny-born striker was the top scorer for the Blues in 2021.

Griffin told the club website that he's aiming to make amends for the relegation they suffered prior to Christmas, "As a local lad it obviously hurt to be relegated last season so I’ll give it my all to get us back where we belong. Ian [Morris] is putting together a really competitive squad and I’m really glad to be part of it. We have to fight for places every week and that’ll really stand to us."

While the manager was happy to have Martin on board as part of his growing squad, “Paul is a very talented young goalkeeper. He has Premier Division experience and will be an important part of the team this year.”

These two latest signings make it 12 that have committed to the project for the upcoming season, with more signings expected to be confirmed in the coming days.
