Seven points from play by Jamie Barron sent Fourmilewater through to the last eight of the Waterford SHC this afternoon. The three-time All Star struck four in the last quarter to edge past Tallow at Fraher Field (0-19 to 1-13).
The winners were guilty of 13 wides but came good in the closing stages to put their name in the hat for tomorrow's draw. Free taker Aaron Ryan also scored seven points for the winners. Tallow will stay in the senior ranks for 2022. Talisman Tommy Ryan got 1-6 before he came off injured in the final quarter.
Tallow number one Shaun O'Sullivan made a sensational double save from Aaron Ryan and Sean Boyce in the ninth minute. Fourmile led 3-1 at that stage as Aaron Ryan converted two frees and Jamie Barron got one from play.
On 13 minutes, Ryan Grey supplied Tommy Ryan and the former inter county forward blasted it low under Stephen Ryan. Fourmile replied with three unanswered points from Aaron Ryan, Dermot Ryan and Barron to lead 0-6 to 1-2 at the first water break.
Fourmile kept their noses in front as Barron sent over his third from play. A Tommy Ryan free in injury time left just a point between them at the break (0-10 to 1-6).
