Abbeyside are aiming to win their first ever County Senior hurling title while Ballygunner are chasing five in a row.
They last appeared in the County Final in 2008 where they narrowly lost out by two points to De La Salle in dreadful weather conditions
This is their sixth time in a senior hurling final.
Manager Peter Queally felt that they produced their best display of the season against De La Salle two weeks ago.
He says that they need to be more clinical if they are to pull off a surprise result on Sunday.
Ballygunner are aiming to lift the News & Star cup for the fifth year in a row in Sunday's county final against Abbeyside.
The Villagers almost caused an upset when the sides met in the quarter finals two years ago as they led by three points before the floodlights failed in Fraher Field.
Ballygunner won the refixture and joint captain Shane O'Sullivan says that they had a lucky escape.
The Gunners will be without David O'Sullivan, Shane Walsh and Peter Hogan from the team that lined out twelve months ago but Shane O'Sullivan says that other leaders have stepped forward.
