Former Waterford captain Brian Flannery believes that Shane Bennett, DJ Foran, Billy Nolan, Michael Kiely and Patrick Fitzgerald will make an impact in 2021.
Flannery picked his five Déise hurlers to follow on Friday's Lár Na Páirce. The criteria was that the players didn't feature in the 2020 championship.
Shane Bennett
The Ballysaggart man is back on board for 2021 joining his brothers Stephen and Kieran. He has won All Ireland minor and under 21 medals with the Déise and started the 2017 All Ireland senior final.
DJ Foran
The Portlaw forward has received a recall from Liam Cahill. He got a first minute goal in the 2016 All Ireland under 21 final against Galway.
Billy Nolan
With Stephen O'Keeffe stepping back, the Roanmore man is favourite for the number one shirt. He got game time against Westmeath and Galway during the 2020 league.
Michael Kiely
The Abbeyside attacker has earned a call-up to the senior squad after some promising underage performances. He scored 2-2 from play for the Waterford under 20s against Tipperary last December.
Patrick Fitzgerald
Man of the match for Ballygunner in the county minor hurling final against Abbeyside after he scored 1-11 out of 1-13. Fitzgerald fired seven points in the Munster championship loss to Tipperary last December and is minor again in 2021.
