Ballysaggart claimed their first senior championship win in their 136 year history at Fraher Field tonight.
Injury time points by Kieran and Kyle Bennett sealed a 1-22 to 1-20 win over local rivals Lismore.
Nine different scorers delivered for the blue and navy. All Star attacker Stephen Bennett led the way with 1-9 while Ronan Walsh hit three points from play in the third quarter. Maurice Shanahan scored 1-9 for Lismore.
Ballysaggart raced into a four-point lead after four minutes with Kieran Bennett, Kyle Bennett, Stephen Bennett and Kenneth Cashel all on target. Maurice Shanahan fired his sixth goal of the championship on 11 minutes after Ray Barry and Jack Prendergast were involved in the build-up. Jordan Shanahan and Prendergast got three points each as Lismore led 1-14 to 0-13 at the break.
Saggart goalkeeper Michael Ryan saved from Shanahan and Prendergast in the third quarter. On 46 minutes, Stephen Bennett smashed a close range free to the net. Ronan Walsh's third point made it all square at the second water break (1-17 apiece).
Bennett snuck Saggart ahead on 52 minutes with an amazing point in front of the bank. Shanahan levelled the match at 1-20 each entering injury time from a 65.
Late, late points from Kieran and Kyle Bennett secured a famous result for one of the smallest clubs in the country.
