Roanmore 4-14
Dunhill 1-08
A first-half goal spree sees Roanmore safely into the quarter-finals of the Waterford senior hurling championship after this 15-point demolition of newly promoted Dunhill.
Dunhill opened the scoring with a fine point from Eamonn Murphy in the 2nd minute however from there on it was all the Sky Blues.
Ethan Flynn capitalised on a defensive error on the way to shooting goal number one after just 4 minutes. Conor Ryan was next to hit the net when he latched onto a long clearance before rounding the Dunhill goalkeeper and billowing the net at the town end. The 2021 intermediate champions were really finding the going tough despite the best efforts of Micheál Harney at centre-back.
Billy Nolan operating in the no 11 position had two first-half points and when Cian Wadding hit goal no 3 Roanmore was now leading 3-7 to 0-3. Moments later the impressive Ethan Flynn placed Lee Hearne to register a 4th goal for Peter Queally’s charges. Roanmore led by 4-9 to 0-4 at half-time.
Roanmore switched Billy Nolan to defence for the second half with the intensity dropping off in the heat at a sweltering Walsh Park. Dunhill worked hard to get back into things and had a goal of their own on 46 minutes when Eamonn Murphy netted from a penalty after Darragh Murray was impeded en route to goal.
Roanmore finished proceedings with points from Emmet O’Toole and Rory Furlong to confirm their automatic place in the quarter-finals.
Dunhill will face Lismore in their second game next weekend.
